Sa’ed Atshan is a Palestinian Quaker LGBTQ human rights advocate.
His community-based volunteer work is primarily through civil society organizations of the Religious Society of Friends, also known as Quakers. Sa’ed is a member of Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting. His alma maters, the Ramallah Friends School and Swarthmore College, are historically Quaker institutions. Sa’ed has served as a professor of peace and conflict studies at Swarthmore College, as an advisor to the Ramallah Friends School, on the multicultural board of Westtown School, as a spiritual nurturer for the Quaker Voluntary Service, on the corporation of Haverford College, the board of Pendle Hill, and on the board of the American Friends Service Committee.
Sa’ed has also worked for the American Civil Liberties Union, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Human Rights Watch, Seeds of Peace, the Palestinian Negotiations Affairs Department, and the Government of Dubai.
